  7. -----------
  8. aria2 is a utility for downloading files. The supported protocols are
  9. HTTP(S), FTP, SFTP, BitTorrent, and Metalink. aria2 can download a
  10. file from multiple sources/protocols and tries to utilize your maximum
  11. download bandwidth. It supports downloading a file from HTTP(S)/FTP
  12. /SFTP and BitTorrent at the same time, while the data downloaded from
  13. HTTP(S)/FTP/SFTP is uploaded to the BitTorrent swarm. Using Metalink
  14. chunk checksums, aria2 automatically validates chunks of data while
  15. downloading a file.

  20. Some options are not effective against SFTP (e.g., :option:`--ftp-pasv`)
  21. Basic Options
  22. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  23. .. option:: -d, --dir=<DIR>
  24. The directory to store the downloaded file.
  25. .. option:: -i, --input-file=<FILE>
  26. Downloads the URIs listed in ``FILE``. You can specify multiple sources for a
  27. single entity by putting multiple URIs on a single line separated by the
  28. :kbd:`TAB` character.
  29. Additionally, options can be specified after each URI line. Option lines
  30. must start with one or more white space characters (:kbd:`SPACE` or :kbd:`TAB`)
  31. and must only contain one option per line.
  32. Input files can use gzip compression.
  33. When ``FILE`` is specified as ``-``, aria2 will read the input from ``stdin``.
  34. See the `Input File`_ subsection for details.

  37. .. option:: -l, --log=<LOG>
  38. The file name of the log file. If ``-`` is specified, log is written to
  39. ``stdout``. If empty string("") is specified, or this option is omitted,
  40. no log is written to disk at all.
  41. .. option:: -j, --max-concurrent-downloads=<N>
  42. Set the maximum number of parallel downloads for every queue item.
  43. See also the :option:`--split <-s>` option.
  44. Default: ``5``
  45. .. option:: -V, --check-integrity[=true|false]
  46. Check file integrity by validating piece hashes or a hash of entire
  47. file. This option has effect only in BitTorrent, Metalink downloads
  48. with checksums or HTTP(S)/FTP downloads with
  49. :option:`--checksum` option. If
  50. piece hashes are provided, this option can detect damaged portions
  51. of a file and re-download them. If a hash of entire file is
  52. provided, hash check is only done when file has been already
  53. download. This is determined by file length. If hash check fails,
  54. file is re-downloaded from scratch. If both piece hashes and a hash
  55. of entire file are provided, only piece hashes are used. Default:
  56. ``false``
  57. .. option:: -c, --continue[=true|false]
  58. Continue downloading a partially downloaded file.
  59. Use this option to resume a download started by a web browser or another
  60. program which downloads files sequentially from the beginning.
  61. Currently this option is only applicable to HTTP(S)/FTP downloads.
  62. .. option:: -h, --help[=<TAG>|<KEYWORD>]
  63. The help messages are classified with tags. A tag starts with
  64. ``#``. For example, type ``--help=#http`` to get the usage for the
  65. options tagged with ``#http``. If non-tag word is given, print the
  66. usage for the options whose name includes that word. Available
  67. Values: ``#basic``, ``#advanced``, ``#http``, ``#https``, ``#ftp``,
  68. ``#metalink``, ``#bittorrent``, ``#cookie``, ``#hook``, ``#file``, ``#rpc``,
  69. ``#checksum``, ``#experimental``, ``#deprecated``, ``#help``, ``#all``
  70. Default: ``#basic``
  71. HTTP/FTP/SFTP Options

  73. .. option:: --all-proxy=<PROXY>
  74. Use a proxy server for all protocols. To override a previously
  75. defined proxy, use "". You also can override this setting and specify a
  76. proxy server for a particular protocol using :option:`--http-proxy`,
  77. :option:`--https-proxy` and :option:`--ftp-proxy` options. This affects all
  78. downloads.
  79. The format of PROXY is ``[http://][USER:PASSWORD@]HOST[:PORT]``.

  82. If user and password are embedded in proxy URI and they are also
  83. specified by *--{http,https,ftp,all}-proxy-{user,passwd}* options,
  84. those specified later override prior options. For example, if you specified
  85. ``http-proxy-user=myname``, ``http-proxy-passwd=mypass`` in aria2.conf and
  86. you specified ``--http-proxy="http://proxy"`` on the command-line, then
  87. you'd get HTTP proxy ``http://proxy`` with user ``myname`` and password
  88. ``mypass``.
  89. Another example: if you specified on the command-line
  90. ``--http-proxy="http://user:pass@proxy" --http-proxy-user="myname"
  91. --http-proxy-passwd="mypass"``, then you'd get HTTP proxy
  92. ``http://proxy`` with user ``myname`` and password ``mypass``.
  93. One more example: if you specified in command-line ``--http-proxy-user="myname"
  94. --http-proxy-passwd="mypass" --http-proxy="http://user:pass@proxy"``,
  95. then you'd get HTTP proxy ``http://proxy`` with user ``user`` and password
  96. ``pass``.
  97. .. option:: --all-proxy-passwd=<PASSWD>
  98. Set password for :option:`--all-proxy` option.
  99. .. option:: --all-proxy-user=<USER>
  100. Set user for :option:`--all-proxy` option.
  101. .. option:: --checksum=<TYPE>=<DIGEST>
  102. Set checksum. TYPE is hash type. The supported hash type is listed
  103. in ``Hash Algorithms`` in ``aria2c -v``. DIGEST is hex digest. For
  104. example, setting sha-1 digest looks like this:
  105. ``sha-1=0192ba11326fe2298c8cb4de616f4d4140213838`` This option applies
  106. only to HTTP(S)/FTP downloads.
  107. .. option:: --connect-timeout=<SEC>
  108. Set the connect timeout in seconds to establish connection to
  109. HTTP/FTP/proxy server. After the connection is established, this
  110. option makes no effect and :option:`--timeout <-t>` option is used instead.
  111. Default: ``60``
  112. .. option:: --dry-run[=true|false]
  113. If ``true`` is given, aria2 just checks whether the remote file is
  114. available and doesn't download data. This option has effect on
  115. HTTP/FTP download. BitTorrent downloads are canceled if ``true`` is
  116. specified. Default: ``false``
  117. .. option:: --lowest-speed-limit=<SPEED>
  118. Close connection if download speed is lower than or equal to this
  119. value(bytes per sec).
  120. ``0`` means aria2 does not have a lowest speed limit.
  121. You can append ``K`` or ``M`` (1K = 1024, 1M = 1024K).
  122. This option does not affect BitTorrent downloads.
  123. Default: ``0``
  124. .. option:: -x, --max-connection-per-server=<NUM>
  125. The maximum number of connections to one server for each download.
  126. Default: ``1``
  127. .. option:: --max-file-not-found=<NUM>
  128. If aria2 receives "file not found" status from the remote HTTP/FTP
  129. servers NUM times without getting a single byte, then force the
  130. download to fail. Specify ``0`` to disable this option. This options
  131. is effective only when using HTTP/FTP servers. The number of retry
  132. attempt is counted toward :option:`--max-tries`, so it should be
  133. configured too.
  134. Default: ``0``
  135. .. option:: -m, --max-tries=<N>
  136. Set number of tries. ``0`` means unlimited.
  137. See also :option:`--retry-wait`.
  138. Default: ``5``
  139. .. option:: -k, --min-split-size=<SIZE>
  140. aria2 does not split less than 2*SIZE byte range. For example,
  141. let's consider downloading 20MiB file. If SIZE is 10M, aria2 can
  142. split file into 2 range [0-10MiB) and [10MiB-20MiB) and download it
  143. using 2 sources(if :option:`--split <-s>` >= 2, of course). If SIZE is 15M,
  144. since 2*15M > 20MiB, aria2 does not split file and download it using
  145. 1 source. You can append ``K`` or ``M`` (1K = 1024, 1M = 1024K).
  146. Possible Values: ``1M`` -``1024M`` Default: ``20M``
  147. .. option:: --netrc-path=<FILE>
  148. Specify the path to the netrc file.
  149. Default: ``$(HOME)/.netrc``
  150. .. note::
  151. Permission of the .netrc file must be 600. Otherwise, the file
  152. will be ignored.
  153. .. option:: -n, --no-netrc[=true|false]
  154. Disables netrc support. netrc support is enabled by default.
  155. .. note::
  156. netrc file is only read at the startup if
  157. :option:`--no-netrc <-n>` is ``false``.
  158. So if :option:`--no-netrc <-n>` is ``true`` at the startup,
  159. no netrc is available throughout the session.
  160. You cannot get netrc enabled even if you send
  161. :option:`--no-netrc=false <-n>` using
  162. :func:`aria2.changeGlobalOption`.
  163. .. option:: --no-proxy=<DOMAINS>
  164. Specify a comma separated list of host names, domains and network addresses
  165. with or without a subnet mask where no proxy should be used.
  166. .. note::
  167. For network addresses with a subnet mask, both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses work.
  168. The current implementation does not resolve the host name in an URI to compare
  169. network addresses specified in :option:`--no-proxy`. So it is only effective
  170. if URI has numeric IP addresses.
  171. .. option:: -o, --out=<FILE>
  172. The file name of the downloaded file. When the
  173. :option:`--force-sequential <-Z>` option is used, this option is ignored.
  174. .. note::
  175. You cannot specify a file name for Metalink or BitTorrent downloads.
  176. The file name specified here is only used when the URIs fed to aria2
  177. are given on the command line directly, but not when using
  178. :option:`--input-file <-i>`, :option:`--force-sequential <-Z>` option.

  183. Set the method to use in proxy request. METHOD is either ``get`` or
  184. ``tunnel``. HTTPS downloads always use ``tunnel`` regardless of this

  187. .. option:: -R, --remote-time[=true|false]
  188. Retrieve timestamp of the remote file from the remote HTTP/FTP
  189. server and if it is available, apply it to the local file.
  190. Default: ``false``
  191. .. option:: --reuse-uri[=true|false]
  192. Reuse already used URIs if no unused URIs are left.
  193. Default: ``true``
  194. .. option:: --retry-wait=<SEC>
  195. Set the seconds to wait between retries. When ``SEC > 0``, aria2 will
  196. retry downloads when the HTTP server returns a 503 response. Default:
  197. ``0``

  199. Specify the file name to which performance profile of the servers is
  200. saved. You can load saved data using :option:`--server-stat-if` option. See
  201. `Server Performance Profile`_

  233. expensive operation. If ``inorder`` is given, aria2 selects piece

  237. be useful to reduce re-connection overhead. Please note that aria2
  238. honors

  240. so it will be necessary to specify a reasonable value to
  241. :option:`--min-split-size <-k>` option.
  242. If ``random`` is given, aria2 selects piece randomly. Like
  243. ``inorder``, :option:`--min-split-size <-k>` option is honored.
  244. If ``geom`` is given, at the beginning aria2 selects piece which has
  245. minimum index like ``inorder``, but it exponentially increasingly
  246. keeps space from previously selected piece. This will reduce the
  247. number of establishing connection and at the same time it will
  248. download the beginning part of the file first. This will be useful
  249. to view movie while downloading it.

  258. uses download speed observed in the previous downloads and choose
  259. fastest server in the URI list. This also effectively skips dead

  262. :option:`--server-stat-if` options. If ``adaptive`` is given, selects one of
  263. the best mirrors for the first and reserved connections. For
  264. supplementary ones, it returns mirrors which has not been tested
  265. yet, and if each of them has already been tested, returns mirrors
  266. which has to be tested again. Otherwise, it doesn't select anymore
  267. mirrors. Like ``feedback``, it uses a performance profile of servers.

  269. HTTP Specific Options

  272. Use the certificate authorities in FILE to verify the peers.
  273. The certificate file must be in PEM format and can contain multiple CA

  277. If you build with OpenSSL or the recent version of GnuTLS which
  278. has ``gnutls_certificate_set_x509_system_trust()`` function and
  279. the library is properly configured to locate the system-wide CA
  280. certificates store, aria2 will automatically load those

  283. *WinTLS* and *AppleTLS* do not support this option. Instead you will
  284. have to import the certificate into the OS trust store.

  286. Use the client certificate in FILE. The certificate must be

  288. PKCS12 files must contain the certificate, a key and optionally a chain

  431. BitTorrent/Metalink Options

  434. Set file to download by specifying its index.
  435. You can find the file index using the :option:`--show-files <-S>` option.
  436. Multiple indexes can be specified by using ``,``, for example: ``3,6``.

  438. ``,`` and ``-`` can be used together: ``1-5,8,9``.
  439. When used with the -M option, index may vary depending on the query
  440. (see *--metalink-\** options).

  442. In multi file torrent, the adjacent files specified by this option may
  443. also be downloaded. This is by design, not a bug.
  444. A single piece may include several files or part of files, and aria2
  445. writes the piece to the appropriate files.

  447. Print file listing of ".torrent", ".meta4" and ".metalink" file and exit.
  448. In case of ".torrent" file, additional information
  449. (infohash, piece length, etc) is also printed.
  450. BitTorrent Specific Options

  452. .. option:: --bt-detach-seed-only[=true|false]
  453. Exclude seed only downloads when counting concurrent active
  454. downloads (See :option:`-j` option). This means that if ``-j3`` is
  455. given and this option is turned on and 3 downloads are active and
  456. one of those enters seed mode, then it is excluded from active
  457. download count (thus it becomes 2), and the next download waiting in
  458. queue gets started. But be aware that seeding item is still
  459. recognized as active download in RPC method. Default: ``false``
  460. .. option:: --bt-enable-hook-after-hash-check[=true|false]
  461. Allow hook command invocation after hash check (see :option:`-V`
  462. option) in BitTorrent download. By default, when hash check
  463. succeeds, the command given by :option:`--on-bt-download-complete`
  464. is executed. To disable this action, give ``false`` to this option.
  465. Default: ``true``
  466. .. option:: --bt-enable-lpd[=true|false]
  467. Enable Local Peer Discovery. If a private flag is set in a torrent,
  468. aria2 doesn't use this feature for that download even if ``true`` is
  469. given. Default: ``false``
  470. .. option:: --bt-exclude-tracker=<URI>[,...]
  471. Comma separated list of BitTorrent tracker's announce URI to
  472. remove. You can use special value ``*`` which matches all URIs, thus
  473. removes all announce URIs. When specifying ``*`` in shell
  474. command-line, don't forget to escape or quote it. See also
  475. :option:`--bt-tracker` option.
  476. .. option:: --bt-external-ip=<IPADDRESS>
  477. Specify the external IP address to use in BitTorrent download and DHT.
  478. It may be sent to BitTorrent tracker. For DHT, this option should be
  479. set to report that local node is downloading a particular torrent.
  480. This is critical to use DHT in a private network. Although this
  481. function is named ``external``, it can accept any kind of IP
  482. addresses.
  483. .. option:: --bt-force-encryption[=true|false]
  484. Requires BitTorrent message payload encryption with arc4. This is a
  485. shorthand of :option:`--bt-require-crypto`
  486. :option:`--bt-min-crypto-level`\=arc4. This option does not change
  487. the option value of those options. If ``true`` is given, deny
  488. legacy BitTorrent handshake and only use Obfuscation handshake and
  489. always encrypt message payload. Default: ``false``
  490. .. option:: --bt-hash-check-seed[=true|false]
  491. If ``true`` is given, after hash check using :option:`--check-integrity <-V>` option and
  492. file is complete, continue to seed file. If you want to check file
  493. and download it only when it is damaged or incomplete, set this

  511. be downloaded. This option has effect only when BitTorrent Magnet

  514. Set minimum level of encryption method.
  515. If several encryption methods are provided by a peer, aria2 chooses the lowest
  516. one which satisfies the given level.

  519. Try to download first and last pieces of each file first. This is
  520. useful for previewing files. The argument can contain 2 keywords:
  521. ``head`` and ``tail``. To include both keywords, they must be separated
  522. by comma. These keywords can take one parameter, SIZE. For example,
  523. if ``head=<SIZE>`` is specified, pieces in the range of first SIZE bytes
  524. of each file get higher priority. ``tail=<SIZE>`` means the range of
  525. last SIZE bytes of each file. SIZE can include ``K`` or ``M`` (1K = 1024,
  526. 1M = 1024K). If SIZE is omitted, SIZE=1M is used.
  527. .. option:: --bt-remove-unselected-file[=true|false]
  528. Removes the unselected files when download is completed in
  529. BitTorrent. To select files, use
  530. :option:`--select-file` option. If it is
  531. not used, all files are assumed to be selected. Please use this
  532. option with care because it will actually remove files from your
  533. disk.

  536. If ``true`` is given, aria2 doesn't accept and establish connection with legacy

  847. only newer file conditionally. When getting modification time of

  875. Disable IPv6. This is useful if you have to use broken DNS and want

  878. Enable disk cache. If SIZE is ``0``, the disk cache is
  879. disabled. This feature caches the downloaded data in memory, which
  880. grows to at most SIZE bytes. The cache storage is created for aria2
  881. instance and shared by all downloads. The one advantage of the disk
  882. cache is reduce the disk I/O because the data are written in larger
  883. unit and it is reordered by the offset of the file. If hash
  884. checking is involved and the data are cached in memory, we don't
  885. need to read them from the disk. SIZE can include ``K`` or ``M``
  886. (1K = 1024, 1M = 1024K). Default: ``16M``

  888. This option changes the way ``Download Results`` is formatted. If
  889. OPT is ``default``, print GID, status, average download speed and
  890. path/URI. If multiple files are involved, path/URI of first
  891. requested file is printed and remaining ones are omitted. If OPT is
  892. ``full``, print GID, status, average download speed, percentage of
  893. progress and path/URI. The percentage of progress and path/URI are

  898. Set DSCP value in outgoing IP packets of BitTorrent traffic for

  922. Specify the method for polling events. The possible values are
  923. ``epoll``, ``kqueue``, ``port``, ``poll`` and ``select``. For each ``epoll``,
  924. ``kqueue``, ``port`` and ``poll``, it is available if system supports it.
  925. ``epoll`` is available on recent Linux. ``kqueue`` is available on
  926. various \*BSD systems including Mac OS X. ``port`` is available on Open
  927. Solaris. The default value may vary depending on the system you use.
  928. .. option:: --file-allocation=<METHOD>
  929. Specify file allocation method.
  930. ``none`` doesn't pre-allocate file space. ``prealloc`` pre-allocates file space
  931. before download begins. This may take some time depending on the size of the
  932. file.
  933. If you are using newer file systems such as ext4
  934. (with extents support), btrfs, xfs or NTFS(MinGW build only), ``falloc`` is
  935. your best choice. It allocates large(few GiB)
  936. files almost instantly. Don't use ``falloc`` with
  937. legacy file systems such as ext3 and FAT32 because it takes
  938. almost same time as ``prealloc`` and it blocks aria2
  939. entirely until allocation finishes. ``falloc`` may
  940. not be available if your system doesn't have
  941. :manpage:`posix_fallocate(3)` function.
  942. ``trunc`` uses :manpage:`ftruncate(2)` system call or
  943. platform-specific counterpart to truncate a file to a specified
  944. length.
  945. Possible Values: ``none``, ``prealloc``, ``trunc``, ``falloc``
  946. Default: ``prealloc``
  947. .. Warning::
  948. Using ``trunc`` seemingly allocates disk space very quickly, but
  949. what it actually does is that it sets file length metadata in
  950. file system, and does not allocate disk space at all. This means
  951. that it does not help avoiding fragmentation.
  952. .. option:: --force-save[=true|false]
  953. Save download with :option:`--save-session <--save-session>` option
  954. even if the download is completed or removed. This option also saves
  955. control file in that situations. This may be useful to save
  956. BitTorrent seeding which is recognized as completed state.

  959. Set GID manually. aria2 identifies each download by the ID called
  960. GID. The GID must be hex string of 16 characters, thus [0-9a-zA-Z]

  963. error is reported and the download is not added. This option is
  964. useful when restoring the sessions saved using
  965. :option:`--save-session <--save-session>` option. If this option is

  968. If ``true`` is given, after hash check using
  969. :option:`--check-integrity <-V>` option,
  970. abort download whether or not download is complete.

  1179. Notes for Options
  1180. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1181. Optional arguments
  1182. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  1183. The options that have its argument surrounded by square brackets([])
  1184. take an optional argument. Usually omitting the argument is evaluated to ``true``.
  1185. If you use short form of these options(such as ``-V``) and give
  1186. an argument, then the option name and its argument should be concatenated(e.g.
  1187. ``-Vfalse``). If any spaces are inserted between the option name and the argument,
  1188. the argument will be treated as URI and usually this is not what you expect.
  1189. Units (K and M)
  1190. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  1191. Some options takes ``K`` and ``M`` to conveniently represent 1024 and
  1192. 1048576 respectively. aria2 detects these characters in
  1193. case-insensitive way. In other words, ``k`` and ``m`` can be used as
  1194. well as ``K`` and ``M`` respectively.
  1195. URI, MAGNET, TORRENT_FILE, METALINK_FILE
  1196. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1197. You can specify multiple URIs in command-line. Unless you specify
  1198. :option:`--force-sequential <-Z>` option, all URIs must point to the same file or downloading will
  1199. fail.
  1200. You can specify arbitrary number of BitTorrent Magnet URI. Please note
  1201. that they are always treated as a separate download. Both hex encoded
  1202. 40 characters Info Hash and Base32 encoded 32 characters Info Hash are
  1203. supported. The multiple ``tr`` parameters are supported. Because
  1204. BitTorrent Magnet URI is likely to contain ``&`` character, it is highly
  1205. recommended to always quote URI with single(``'``) or double(``"``) quotation.
  1206. It is strongly recommended to enable DHT especially when ``tr``
  1207. parameter is missing. See http://www.bittorrent.org/beps/bep_0009.html
  1208. for more details about BitTorrent Magnet URI.
  1209. You can also specify arbitrary number of torrent files and Metalink
  1210. documents stored on a local drive. Please note that they are always
  1211. treated as a separate download. Both Metalink4 and Metalink version
  1212. 3.0 are supported.
  1213. You can specify both torrent file with -T option and URIs. By doing
  1214. this, you can download a file from both torrent swarm and
  1215. HTTP(S)/FTP/SFTP server at the same time, while the data from
  1216. HTTP(S)/FTP/SFTP are uploaded to the torrent swarm. For single file
  1217. torrents, URI can be a complete URI pointing to the resource or if URI
  1218. ends with /, name in torrent file in torrent is added. For multi-file
  1219. torrents, name and path are added to form a URI for each file.
  1220. .. note::
  1221. Make sure that URI is quoted with single(``'``) or double(``"``) quotation if it
  1222. contains ``&`` or any characters that have special meaning in shell.
  1223. Resuming Download
  1224. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1225. Usually, you can resume transfer by just issuing same command (aria2c
  1226. URI) if the previous transfer is made by aria2.
  1227. If the previous transfer is made by a browser or wget like sequential
  1228. download manager, then use :option:`--continue <-c>` option to continue the
  1229. transfer.
  1230. Event Hook
  1231. ~~~~~~~~~~
  1232. aria2 provides options to specify arbitrary command after specific event
  1233. occurred. Currently following options are available:
  1234. :option:`--on-bt-download-complete`,
  1235. :option:`--on-download-pause`,
  1236. :option:`--on-download-complete`.
  1237. :option:`--on-download-start`,
  1238. :option:`--on-download-error`,
  1239. :option:`--on-download-stop`.
  1240. aria2 passes 3 arguments to specified command when it is executed.
  1241. These arguments are: GID, the number of files and file path. For
  1242. HTTP, FTP, and SFTP downloads, usually the number of files is 1.
  1243. BitTorrent download can contain multiple files. If number of files is
  1244. more than one, file path is first one. In other words, this is the
  1245. value of path key of first struct whose selected key is true in the
  1246. response of :func:`aria2.getFiles` RPC method. If you want to get all
  1247. file paths, consider to use JSON-RPC/XML-RPC. Please note that file
  1248. path may change during download in HTTP because of redirection or
  1249. Content-Disposition header.

  1365. Specify a comma-separated list of host names, domains and network addresses
  1366. with or without a subnet mask where no proxy should be used. Overrides the
  1367. `no-proxy` value in configuration file. The command-line option
  1368. :option:`--no-proxy` overrides this value.
  1369. FILES
  1370. -----
  1371. aria2.conf
  1372. ~~~~~~~~~~
  1373. By default, aria2 checks whether the legacy path
  1374. ``$HOME/.aria2/aria2.conf`` is present, otherwise it parses
  1375. ``$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/aria2/aria2.conf`` as its configuration file. You
  1376. can specify the path to configuration file using :option:`--conf-path`
  1377. option. If you don't want to use the configuration file, use
  1378. :option:`--no-conf` option.
  1379. The configuration file is a text file and has 1 option per each
  1380. line. In each line, you can specify name-value pair in the format:
  1381. ``NAME=VALUE``, where name is the long command-line option name without
  1382. ``--`` prefix. You can use same syntax for the command-line option. The
  1383. lines beginning ``#`` are treated as comments::

  1391. The confidential information such as user/password might be included
  1392. in the configuration file. It is recommended to change file mode
  1393. bits of the configuration file (e.g., ``chmod 600 aria2.conf``), so
  1394. that other user cannot see the contents of the file.
  1395. dht.dat
  1396. ~~~~~~~~
  1397. Unless the legacy file paths ``$HOME/.aria2/dht.dat`` and
  1398. ``$HOME/.aria2/dht6.dat`` are pointing to existing files, the routing
  1399. table of IPv4 DHT is saved to the path
  1400. ``$XDG_CACHE_HOME/aria2/dht.dat`` and the routing table of IPv6 DHT is
  1401. saved to the path ``$XDG_CACHE_HOME/aria2/dht6.dat``.
  1402. Netrc
  1403. ~~~~~
  1404. Netrc support is enabled by default for HTTP(S)/FTP/SFTP. To disable
  1405. netrc support, specify :option:`--no-netrc <-n>` option. Your .netrc
  1406. file should have correct permissions(600).
  1407. If machine name starts ``.``, aria2 performs domain-match instead of
  1408. exact match. This is an extension of aria2. For example of domain
  1409. match, imagine the following .netrc entry::
  1410. machine .example.org login myid password mypasswd
  1411. ``aria2.example.org`` domain-matches ``.example.org`` and uses ``myid`` and
  1412. ``mypasswd``.
  1413. Some domain-match example follow: ``example.net`` does not domain-match
  1414. ``.example.org``. ``example.org`` does not domain-match ``.example.org``
  1415. because of preceding ``.``. If you want to match ``example.org``, specify
  1416. ``example.org``.
  1417. Control File
  1418. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1419. aria2 uses a control file to track the progress of a download. A
  1420. control file is placed in the same directory as the downloading file
  1421. and its file name is the file name of downloading file with ``.aria2``
  1422. appended. For example, if you are downloading file.zip, then the
  1423. control file should be file.zip.aria2. (There is a exception for this
  1424. naming convention. If you are downloading a multi torrent, its
  1425. control file is the "top directory" name of the torrent with ``.aria2``
  1426. appended. The "top directory" name is a value of "name" key in "info"
  1427. directory in a torrent file.)
  1428. Usually a control file is deleted once download completed. If aria2
  1429. decides that download cannot be resumed(for example, when downloading
  1430. a file from a HTTP server which doesn't support resume), a control
  1431. file is not created.
  1432. Normally if you lose a control file, you cannot resume download. But
  1433. if you have a torrent or metalink with chunk checksums for the file,
  1434. you can resume the download without a control file by giving -V option
  1435. to aria2c in command-line.

  1439. The input file can contain a list of URIs for aria2 to download. You
  1440. can specify multiple URIs for a single entity: separate URIs on a
  1441. single line using the TAB character.

  1575. Server Performance Profile
  1576. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1577. This section describes the format of server performance profile. The
  1578. file is plain text and each line has several ``NAME=VALUE`` pair,
  1579. delimited by comma. Currently following NAMEs are recognized:
  1580. ``host``
  1581. Host name of the server. Required.
  1582. ``protocol``
  1583. Protocol for this profile, such as ftp, http. Required.
  1584. ``dl_speed``
  1585. The average download speed observed in the previous download in
  1586. bytes per sec. Required.
  1587. ``sc_avg_speed``
  1588. The average download speed observed in the previous download in
  1589. bytes per sec. This value is only updated if the download is done in
  1590. single connection environment and only used by
  1591. AdaptiveURISelector. Optional.
  1592. ``mc_avg_speed``
  1593. The average download speed observed in the previous download in
  1594. bytes per sec. This value is only updated if the download is done in
  1595. multi connection environment and only used by
  1596. AdaptiveURISelector. Optional.
  1597. ``counter``
  1598. How many times the server is used. Currently this value is only used
  1599. by AdaptiveURISelector. Optional.
  1600. ``last_updated``
  1601. Last contact time in GMT with this server, specified in the seconds
  1602. since the Epoch(00:00:00 on January 1, 1970, UTC). Required.
  1603. ``status``
  1604. ERROR is set when server cannot be reached or out-of-service or
  1605. timeout occurred. Otherwise, OK is set.
  1606. Those fields must exist in one line. The order of the fields is not
  1607. significant. You can put pairs other than the above; they are simply
  1608. ignored.

  1612. RPC INTERFACE
  1613. -------------
  1614. aria2 provides JSON-RPC over HTTP and XML-RPC over HTTP interfaces that offer
  1615. basically the same functionality. aria2 also provides JSON-RPC
  1616. over WebSocket. JSON-RPC over WebSocket uses the same method signatures
  1617. and response format as JSON-RPC over HTTP, but additionally provides
  1618. server-initiated notifications. See `JSON-RPC over WebSocket`_ section for more
  1619. information.
  1620. The request path of the JSON-RPC interface (for both over HTTP and over
  1621. WebSocket) is ``/jsonrpc``. The request path of the XML-RPC interface is
  1622. ``/rpc``.
  1623. The WebSocket URI for JSON-RPC over WebSocket is
  1624. ``ws://HOST:PORT/jsonrpc``. If you enabled SSL/TLS encryption, use
  1625. ``wss://HOST:PORT/jsonrpc`` instead.
  1626. The implemented JSON-RPC is based on JSON-RPC 2.0
  1627. <http://jsonrpc.org/specification>, and
  1628. supports HTTP POST and GET (JSONP). The WebSocket transport is
  1629. an aria2 extension.
  1630. The JSON-RPC interface does not support notifications over HTTP, but the
  1631. RPC server will send notifications over WebSocket. It also does not
  1632. support floating point numbers. The character encoding must be UTF-8.
  1633. When reading the following documentation for JSON-RPC, interpret structs as JSON
  1634. objects.
  1635. Terminology
  1636. ~~~~~~~~~~~
  1637. GID
  1638. The GID (or gid) is a key to manage each download. Each download will be
  1639. assigned a unique GID. The GID is stored as 64-bit binary value in aria2.
  1640. For RPC access, it is represented as a hex string of 16 characters (e.g.,
  1641. ``2089b05ecca3d829``). Normally, aria2 generates this GID for each
  1642. download, but the user can specify GIDs manually using the :option:`--gid
  1643. <--gid>` option. When querying downloads by GID, you can specify only the
  1644. prefix of a GID as long as it is unique among others.

  1646. RPC authorization secret token
  1647. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  1648. As of 1.18.4, in addition to HTTP basic authorization, aria2 provides
  1649. RPC method-level authorization. In a future release, HTTP basic
  1650. authorization will be removed and RPC method-level authorization will
  1651. become mandatory.
  1652. To use RPC method-level authorization, the user has to specify an RPC secret
  1653. authorization token using the :option:`--rpc-secret` option. For each RPC
  1654. method call, the caller has to include the token prefixed with
  1655. ``token:``. Even when the :option:`--rpc-secret` option is not used, if the
  1656. first parameter in the RPC method is a string and starts with ``token:``, it
  1657. will removed from the parameter list before the request is being processed.
  1658. For example, if the RPC secret authorization token is ``$$secret$$``,
  1659. calling `aria2.addUri` RPC method would have to look like this::
  1660. aria2.addUri("token:$$secret$$", ["http://example.org/file"])
  1661. The `system.multicall` RPC method is treated specially. Since the XML-RPC
  1662. specification only allows a single array as a parameter for this method, we
  1663. don't specify the token in the call. Instead, each nested method call has
  1664. to provide the token as the first parameter as described above.

  1666. The secret token validation in aria2 is designed to take at least a certain
  1667. amount of time to mitigate brute-force/dictionary attacks against the RPC
  1668. interface. Therefore it is recommended to prefer Batch or `system.multicall`
  1669. requests when appropriate.
  1670. `system.listMethods` and `system.listNotifications` can be executed without token. Since they just
  1671. return available methods/notifications, they do not alter anything, they're safe without secret token.

  1897. List of GIDs which are generated as the result of this
  1898. download. For example, when aria2 downloads a Metalink file, it
  1899. generates downloads described in the Metalink (see the
  1900. :option:`--follow-metalink` option). This value is useful to track
  1901. auto-generated downloads. If there are no such downloads, this key will not
  1902. be included in the response.
  1903. ``following``
  1904. The reverse link for ``followedBy``. A download included in
  1905. ``followedBy`` has this object's GID in its ``following`` value.
  1906. ``belongsTo``
  1907. GID of a parent download. Some downloads are a part of another
  1908. download. For example, if a file in a Metalink has BitTorrent
  1909. resources, the downloads of ".torrent" files are parts of that parent.
  1910. If this download has no parent, this key will not be included in the
  1911. response.
  1912. ``dir``
  1913. Directory to save files.
  1914. ``files``
  1915. Returns the list of files. The elements of this list are the same structs
  1916. used in :func:`aria2.getFiles` method.
  1917. ``bittorrent``
  1918. Struct which contains information retrieved from the .torrent
  1919. (file). BitTorrent only. It contains following keys.
  1920. ``announceList``
  1921. List of lists of announce URIs. If the torrent contains ``announce``
  1922. and no ``announce-list``, ``announce`` is converted to the
  1923. ``announce-list`` format.
  1924. ``comment``
  1925. The comment of the torrent. ``comment.utf-8`` is used if available.

  1927. The creation time of the torrent. The value is an integer since

  2779. format as JSON-RPC over HTTP. The supported WebSocket version is 13

  2781. To send a RPC request to the RPC server, send a serialized JSON string
  2782. in a Text frame. The response from the RPC server is delivered also in

  2784. Notifications

  2786. The RPC server might send notifications to the client. Notifications is
  2787. unidirectional, therefore the client which receives the notification must not
