  1903. <div class="paragraph"><p>aria2 uses a control file to track the progress of a download. A
  1904. control file is placed in the same directory as the downloading file
  1905. and its filename is the filename of downloading file with ".aria2"
  1906. appended. For example, if you are downloading file.zip, then the
  1907. control file should be file.zip.aria2. (There is a exception for this
  1908. naming convention. If you are downloading a multi torrent, its
  1909. control file is the "top directory" name of the torrent with ".aria2"
  1910. appended. The "top directory" name is a value of "name" key in "info"
  1911. directory in a torrent file.)</p></div>
  1912. <div class="paragraph"><p>Usually a control file is deleted once download completed. If aria2
  1913. decides that download cannot be resumed(for example, when downloading
  1914. a file from a HTTP server which doesn&#8217;t support resume), a control
  1915. file is not created.</p></div>
  1916. <div class="paragraph"><p>Normally if you lose a control file, you cannot resume download. But
  1917. if you have a torrent or metalink with chunk checksums for the file,
  1918. you can resume the download without a control file by giving -V option
