  1. aria2 - a simple utility for downloading files.
  2. 1. Disclaimer
  3. -------------
  4. This program comes with no warranty.
  5. You must use this program at your own risk.
  6. 2. About aria2
  7. --------------
  8. aria2 has segmented downloading engine in its core. By segmented downloading,
  9. it can download files very much faster than ordinary browsers.
  10. aria2 is in very early development stage. Currently it has following features:
  11. * HTTP/HTTPS GET support
  12. * HTTP Proxy support
  13. * HTTP BASIC authentication support
  14. * HTTP Proxy authentication support
  15. * FTP support(active, passive mode)
  16. * FTP through HTTP proxy(GET command or tunneling)
  17. * Segmented download
  18. * Cookie support(currently aria2 ignores "expires")
  19. * It can run as a daemon process.
  20. * BitTorrent protocol support with fast extension.
  21. * Selective download in multi-file torrent
  22. 3. How to build
  23. ---------------
  24. $ ./configure
  25. $ make
  26. The executable is aria2c in src directory.
  27. 4. Dependency
  28. -------------
  29. In order to enable HTTPS support, you need GNU TLS or OpenSSL.
  30. In order to enable BitTorrent support, you need GNU TLS+libgcrypt or OpenSSL.
  31. GNU TLS has precedence over OpenSSL if both libraries are installed.
  32. If you prefer OpenSSL, run configure with "--without-gnutls".
  33. 5. BitTorrrent
  34. --------------
  35. The filename of the downloaded file is determined as follows:
  36. single-file mode:
  37. If "name" key is present in .torrent file, filename is the value of "name"
  38. key. Otherwise, filename is the basename of .torrent file appended by
  39. ".file". For example, .torrent file is "test.torrrent", then filename is
  40. "test.torrent.file".
  41. The directory to store the downloaded file can be specified by -d option.
  42. multi-file mode:
  43. The complete directory/file structure mentioned in .torrent file is
  44. created.
  45. The directory to store the top directory of downloaded files can be
  46. specified by -d option.
  47. In the default behavior, before download starts, complete directory structure
  48. is created if needed. Then aria2 opens all files mentioned in .torrent file,
  49. directly writes to and reads from these files.
  50. NOTE: Even in selective download, all files are opened.
  51. If "--direct-file-mapping" option set to be false, aria2 creates temporary
  52. file in the store directory. The length of this file is the sum of length of
  53. the files in .torrent file, so at least 2 times more disk space than the file
  54. size itself is required. Writing and reading is done against this file.
  55. After download completes, aria2 creates complete directory structure if needed,
  56. and copies whole file or a part of it to the destination.
  57. Note:
  58. * -o option is used to change the filename of downloaded .torrent file.
  59. * This version only supports compact peers list format.
  60. * The ports aria2c uses are 6881-6999.
  61. * The maximum number of peers is 55.
  62. * After selective download completes, aria2 is going to download rest of the
  63. files.
